How to Save/Convert WEBP to PNG in Windows 10

February 18, 2021 by Richard Phillips Leave a Comment

It’s been a long time since Google is using WEBP images on all its platforms, including Google Play Store. Google’s WEBP format is the advanced format for just like PNG and JPEG. The biggest advantage of using WEBP is, it occupies a very low file size (2/3 size of PNG or JPEG image with the same image quality)

The only drawback is, this WEBP format is still not supported by Microsoft apps like Windows photo viewer. So if you download any WEBP image on your Windows 10, it won’t work. You have to convert WEBP to other image formats like PNG and JPEG. However, you can access those WEBP images with browsers like Google Chrome and Edge, but they’re browsers.

If you want to convert your WEBP images to PNG or JPEG format, this article will help you.

How to Convert WEBP to PNG in Windows 10

You can easily convert your WEBP images to PNG or JPEG so that you can access them on your Windows 10.

Step 1: Open your WEBP image in any browser.

Step 2: Right-click on image > choose save as.

Step 3: Now name it as “1.png” or “1.jpeg”. You can replace “1” with any image name. Then choose “All File” for save as type and save the image.

Step 4: Go to your set location and you will see your converted image there. Now you can access that image on Windows.

Method 2: Using the Paint Application

You can also convert your WEBP image with the default paint app. Follow these steps:

1. Save the WEBP image on your PC without changing anything.

2. Now go to the download location > right-click on your image > open with paint.

3. In the paint app, click on file > save as > choose the PNG or JPEG format > save.

Final Words

WEBP images are much lighter and require less space but still many apps do not support this format. Some popular CMS like WordPress does not support WEBP images. So you have to convert these WEBP images to other supported formats like PNG, JPEG, & JPG.
