You will see this error because your system is not able to update files or install new updates. Also, Windows troubleshooter is not able to fix this issue, so you have to manually fix the error.
1. Run sfc/ ScanNow Command
If your Windows update is running and you see this error then chances are there are corrupted system files available in your system. You can use scannow Command from Command Prompt to scan your system for corrupted system.
Step 1: Open Command Prompt as an administrator. (Open Start > type Command Prompt > Right Click > Run as Admin).
Step 2: Type sfc/scannow command > Enter.
Step 3: Wait for sometime and wait. Once done, you will see Service Registration is Missing or Corrupt is not fixed.
2. Run Windows Update Commands
Step 1: Open Command Prompt using method 1 process and then type this following command > Press Enter.
net stop wuauserv net stop cryptSvc net stop bits net stop msiserver ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old net start wuauserv net start cryptSvc net start bits net start msiserver
Step 3: Restart your PC.
3. Starting Windows Update Services
Step-1: Press Win + R for Run box > type services.msc in the run > Ok.
Step-2: Find Windows Update service to open Windows Update Properties > Double Click on it.
Step-3: Change “Startup type” to Automatic > Apply. This will set Windows Update Service to Automatic.
Step-4: In case they are stopped, Start service and click on ok.
